Pierre Poilievre - Canada's all-time most effective opposition leader
The Pierre Principle - the Tory leader is perfect for the job he's got
Illustration created with the assistance of OpenAI’s ChatGPT and DALL·E. (And a friend who knows how to use all of these things who though my idea was funny.)
Ultra-Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre killed the career of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, ended NDP leader Jagmeet Singh, made carbon taxes toxic and may have just convinced Canadians that the only party they still need to oppose the Liberals is his.
If there is a prize for being the most effective federal Opposition leader in Canadian history, Pierre takes the gold.
Clearly, this is the job he was born to do.
Pierre loves attacking and he’s got such amazing one-liners that are terrific on TikTok. Axe the tax! Canada First! Bring it Home! Slogans not solutions! Punchlines not policies! Rhymes not reasons! Boil that dust speck!!!
Quotable, insulting nicknames are not so great from someone looking at running a country other than the US (or anyone who works anywhere with a Human Resources department), but pitch-perfect for an Opposition leader looking to land a zinger in question period.
Millions of Canadians have already voted in advance polls and the head of the party that wants to become the new government still hasn’t released a policy platform? Kinda seems like Pierre doesn’t have one he wants to stand on.
But that’s perfect, because as Opposition Leader, he doesn’t need a platform - just a soapbox.
During the campaign, the Conservatives have shown they have a bunch of candidates… hidden somewhere very clever where media and potential voters can’t find them.
No worries! An Opposition Leader doesn’t need a Cabinet.
Hidden agenda???
Does Pierre have a hidden agenda?
Oooh, I hope so.
I just saw him boasting online about the support of former BC Premier, Gordon Campbell. Don’t tell Danielle Smith, but this’d be Carbon Tax Campbell - the guy who won an award for bringing carbon taxes to Canada.
Does this mean Campbell can advise on Tory climate policies and explain that the climate crisis is bad for business and, ya know, life on earth?
Gordon Campbell receiving an award
for creating BC’s carbon tax from Tzeporah Berman.
On that front, Pipeline Polievere says he wants to sue big pharma over the opioid crisis. Awesome! I assume this means he also wants to sue big oil over the climate crisis!
What kind of radical is he? Who knows? Who needs to know! He just has to be able to say “Liberal policies are lousy” in both official languages.
Team Tory is also coming for paper straws because what the world needs most is plastic! Most humans eat plastic every day, but can we ever really get enough plastic in our diet?
Make Canada Grate!
Is Pierre tiny Trump?
Not really.
But he’s a fan of his, um, tactics, stole most of his slogans and he’s scared $#@!less of losing his most Magafied followers to the People's Party, so the political pitbull who will attack anyone at the drop of a red ballcap gets uncharacteristically diplomatic when he’s asked about being Trumpy.
Reform Party leader, Preston Manning wasn’t racist. He just didn’t say much that might make a racist feel uncomfortable at the gatherings of the Reform k clan.
I don’t believe for a moment that Pierre is in favour of being annexed by America, but I’m certain he’s not keen on pissing off potential voters who are.
The Pierre Principle?
Right now every poll says Pierre Poilievre is on track to retain his job as leader of His Majesty’s Loyal Opposition and the blue wave is going to keep him… exactly where he is… but with fewer MPs from other parties, and possibly fewer parties, to help him do his opposing. That is, until his ReformaTories decompose the way BC’s newly elected Tory party is doing and parliament is back to featuring several shades of angrier blue.
In 1968, UBC professor, Laurence J. Peter made a joke/observation that became the title and thesis of his now legendary book, The Peter Principle. The definition: “In a hierarchy every employee tends to rise to his level of incompetence.”
The Pierre Principle may be that in a parliamentary democracy, sometimes an Opposition Leader is built to oppose.
This election… Canadian voters need to get it right… Pierre Poilievre for second place!
And the best part of this is… for Pierre to keep the job he was born to do… only Albertans have to vote for him.
He’s got the experience, he’s got the skills and, by golly, he’s earned the job!
I agree! who , who can really lead, wouldn't want a pain in the ass to keep him/her in line without looking like a real Trump. Justa kinda one.
